The new tools based on Generative Artificial Intelligence that allow you to transform text into an image caught my attention last year and pushed me to delve deeper into their practical applications, but also their philosophical and social implications. In particular, Midjourney has almost become a drug due to the continuous improvements, but also the communal conception of creation. Here, in fact, all the works generated are public, so anyone can peek at the work of others and reuse the prompts for their own creations. This induces a continuous sense of discovery and wonder that captivates and pushes us to improve, also to understand the limits of the machine.
What is Midjourney Midjourney is the first product of the research laboratory of the same India Mobile Number Data name founded by David Holz, who had already created Leap Motion, a company that had created a peripheral capable of identifying the movement of the fingers in order to produce inputs for a computer (e.g. navigate or model 3D objects). Midjourney, launched in July 2022 in public beta, has now exceeded 4.4 million users and has also started to invoice given that it immediately understood that users would be willing to pay to use it. Prices range from $10 to $60 depending on the number of images generated, the speed of creation and the ability to perform tasks simultaneously. Midjourney is accessible through a bot on Discord, so you must first register on the chat service and then sign up to MJ. At this point, simply invoke the /image command followed by a textual description, to obtain a coherent image.
Midjourney has been trained to understand text and learn graphic and photographic genres and styles through millions of images found on the web (some artists are not happy about this and are starting to sue the company). His outputs are on average more "creative" than those of Dall-E and Stable Diffusion. Holz says his tool isn't about art, but about imagination. It is mainly aimed at those people who are not good at drawing, but who find it fun to do so. This is not an attack on artists who will always be paid more for their professionalism. The tool would help raise the bar and educate people to have a greater understanding of images. Video Guide and Resources at Midjourney Since I've used Midjourney a lot in recent months, I thought I'd share some things I've learned in a video that aims to be a mini guide in Italian to start working with the prompts, discover the most important parameters and some tricks.
